The Filmcalculator program is developed with the aid of
program/company called Appforge. This is why you need to have the
'Booster" application on the device to run the main program.
A few years ago, this was no issue: the booster was included in the
program and would automatically install itself and run nicely in the
background.
Unfortunately Appforge is changing its licenses year by year to make more money and put their name on display
..
What has changed:
- Appforge want to charge the customer an additional $30 plus the
hassle to register at their website for everybody who wants to run the
Filmcalculator program. (means the price of the program goes up with
more than 30%)
- They have a try-out version, but it only runs for 14 days, which means they overrule my 30 days try-out system.
- They dont allow me to use older versions next to the newer ones
(I bought both for a lot of money) which means that if I want to fix a
small bug or update the filmstock database, I can only do so in the
latest version, forcing my clients to upgrade (and pay too).
This is all against my policy of free updates, up to date programs and
sufficient time to try a program before you spent money. I am looking
into other ways to do the programming but it would mean dropping the
support for Palm and Symbian/SonyEricsson.
As small developer I have no rights with companies like Appforge and I regret this very much.
Please let me know what you think in the forum.
- Should I continue with all versions and raise the price to $129?
- Should I stick to Windows Mobile device, which runs without additional costs?
- Should I stop with the PDA/Phone version al together?
- Should I make a PC/MAC version?
Thank you!
