Filmcalculator introduction

The Filmcalculator is a program for people working in the film business. It is mainly useful for D.O.P.'s, camera-operators, assistants, clapperloaders and gaffers but also for still photographers and video cameramen.

Primarily developed as a personal tool, the Filmcalculator has grown to a professional program with users world wide. Distribution as shareware makes it legal to make copies for colleagues and gives everybody the opportunity to try the program and decide if they like it before actually buying it.

The program helps with calculations needed while planning or shooting a production.

Main area's of calculations:

  • Sun position
  • Exposure
  • Size / Distance
  • Light / Lamp
  • Filmlength
  • Macro / SFX
  • and more

Supported Devices:

  • PocketPC 2002 /2003 / Windows Mobile 5
  • Palm (with High Resolution screens)
  • Sony-Ericsson P800/P900/P910

The versions for PalmHR, PocketPC and SonyEricsson have exactly the same calculations, look and feel.

Older version for older models:

  • Palm PDA with OS 3.0-4.0( with the lower resolution screens)
  • Psion Series 5
  • Psion Revo

The older version for the Palm will work with operating systems 3.5 till 5.0
Due to the smaller screen and memory size the calculations are a bit more limited and is the program divided in two separate programs: Filmcalculator and Lightcalculator.

The original Psion Filmcalculator is still the most complete one. Unfortunately Psion is no longer making the devices and I have stopped the development too. Still it is a very nice and useful program if you have your Psion still running.
